WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event Predictions: The Viper Strikes, Oba Femi Rises

WWE is bringing us the first-ever Sunday Night's Main Event, and this card may only feature four advertised matches, but every one of them has something interesting attached to it.
Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton have a rivalry built on years of history. Oba Femi and Bron Breakker could be a preview of WWE's future. Lil Yachty is stepping into the ring against an experienced Baron Corbin with Trick Williams waiting in the wings. Then we have a six-woman tag match filled with enough personalities and unfinished business to explode at any moment.
WWE.com has released its predictions. I have mine.
And we definitely don't agree on everything.
Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes
My Prediction: Randy Orton defeats Cody Rhodes
WWE.com is going with Cody Rhodes. I'm going the opposite direction.
Give me Randy Orton.
Cody is wrestling in his hometown of Atlanta, which makes him the obvious favorite. But sometimes the obvious result is exactly why WWE should go the other way.
There is too much history between these two for this to simply be another Cody Rhodes victory. Randy Orton has made it clear that he wants to prevent Cody from reaching World Championship No. 15, and their rivalry has become increasingly personal.
This is where I think The Viper strikes.
Cody does not need this victory. A loss to Randy Orton will not hurt him. Instead, it could push Cody further toward the darker and more aggressive side of his character that WWE has been teasing.
Orton winning also keeps this rivalry alive.
Prediction: Randy Orton defeats Cody Rhodes.
👑 Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker
My Prediction: Oba Femi defeats Bron Breakker
This might be the match I am looking forward to the most.
Two monsters. Two future world champions. Two wrestlers WWE can build around for years.
Bron Breakker has everything WWE could want in a superstar, but right now, Oba Femi feels different.
WWE has positioned this as a battle involving the future of the company, especially after Femi's victory over Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Bron has taken exception to everyone declaring Oba the future, which gives this match an even bigger edge.
But if WWE is serious about Oba Femi becoming one of its next major attractions, this is another opportunity to prove it.
Bron can survive a loss. Oba should continue climbing.
Whether Paul Heyman, Bronson Reed or somebody else becomes involved, I still see the final result being the same.
Prediction: Oba Femi defeats Bron Breakker.
🎤 Lil Yachty vs. Baron Corbin
My Prediction: Lil Yachty survives with help from Trick Williams
This is where I am really going against WWE.com's prediction.
WWE.com picked Baron Corbin.
I'm taking Lil Yachty.
The stipulation is the key. WWE says that if Yachty can last five minutes against Corbin, Trick Williams receives a United States Championship rematch later that night.
That screams storyline.
Nobody should expect Lil Yachty to suddenly become a technically superior professional wrestler to Baron Corbin. That isn't the point.
The point is Trick Williams.
I expect Trick to find a way to assist Yachty, distract Corbin or otherwise make sure his friend survives those five minutes.
Corbin will dominate most of the action. Yachty will be in trouble. The clock will become part of the drama.
Then Trick Williams gets involved.
Five minutes expires.
Yachty survives.
And suddenly Trick Williams has himself a United States Championship opportunity.
Prediction: Lil Yachty survives the five-minute challenge with an assist from Trick Williams.
Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley vs. Jade Cargill, Michin & B-Fab
My Prediction: Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley win
WWE.com believes Jade Cargill will pin Charlotte Flair.
I'm taking the other team.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss already give their side tremendous star power. Add Tatum Paxley as the unpredictable wildcard, and I think that becomes the difference.
There may be tension between Charlotte and Tatum, but I don't think WWE needs to break this team apart immediately. There is more story to tell by allowing them to coexist and win.
Jade Cargill remains dangerous, but Michin or B-Fab can take the fall without hurting Jade.
That gives WWE an easy way to protect Cargill while giving Charlotte, Alexa and Tatum the victory.
I would especially keep an eye on Tatum. She could be the one who unexpectedly makes the difference and proves to Charlotte that she belongs alongside her and Alexa.
Prediction: Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley defeat Jade Cargill, Michin & B-Fab.
🔔 Final Predictions
Randy Orton defeats Cody Rhodes
Oba Femi defeats Bron Breakker
Lil Yachty survives Baron Corbin with help from Trick Williams
Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley defeat Jade Cargill, Michin & B-Fab
Sunday Night's Main Event feels less like a traditional four-match television special and more like WWE setting up the next chapter of several major stories.
The biggest result for me is Randy Orton defeating Cody Rhodes. Cody winning in Atlanta is the safe prediction. Orton winning is the more interesting one.
Oba Femi should continue his rise. Lil Yachty and Trick Williams should find a way to outsmart Baron Corbin. And Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley should prove that their unusual alliance can actually work.
WWE.com has its predictions.
These are mine.
Now ring the bell. 🔔
